OVHcloud, a European cloud leader, has celebrated its 15th year in the UK and the fifth anniversary of its data centre in Erith. The company commemorated the occasion with a reception for staff, partners and customers at London’s Tower Bridge, hosted by CEO, Michel Paulin.

“Since opening in the UK, OVHcloud has experienced incredible growth. The UK market has a thriving technology sector and we are proud to support companies of all sizes and all sectors,” said Michel Paulin, CEO, OVHcloud.

The London office and data centre acts as a hub for both UK-based customers and organisations across the world, including geo-information provider, GeoPlace; gaming collective, Ziax; Sweden-based gaming performance optimisation firm, Leetify; and decentralised and confidential cloud computing protocol provider, Super Protocol.

OVHcloud’s Erith data centre offers a variety of services, from competitively priced Rise servers and VPS products to high-performance gaming and AI infrastructure, as well as hosted private cloud through providers including Nutanix and VMware. In addition to IaaS services, OVHcloud provides a host of PaaS services from managed Kubernetes to solutions for AI, including its recent AI Deploy service that supports the deployment of trained AI models into production environments and managed database services.

“Our customer portfolio includes AI and blockchain startups, as well as large corporate organisations, and we continue to develop local partnerships with technology vendors and trade associations. We are confident that our philosophy of being a sustainable, open, innovative and trusted cloud provider will continue to offer unique and unmatched value to customers in the region,” said Emma Dennard, VP Northern Europe, OVHcloud.

“There are an increasing number of high-growth, cloud-native organisations that want to focus on driving innovation rather than managing infrastructure. At the same time, many companies are under pressure to be open and transparent about their greenhouse gas emissions, and as a vertically integrated organisation, OVHcloud is in a unique position to provide this in a clear, comprehensible and thorough way.”

OVHcloud has been deploying water-cooling server technology for over 20 years, allowing it to reach best-in-class sustainability metrics. OVHcloud-owned datacentres, including the Erith facility, use a direct-to-chip cooling system, enabling heat dissipation from the server with water helped by rear door heat exchangers (RDHX) located on server racks. This autonomous rack system has been essential in helping OVHcloud to maintain its global average PuE of 1.28, lower than the industry average of 1.55.

The Erith data centre itself is also a sustainable facility; OVHcloud’s water-cooling technology removes the need for hot- and cold-aisle cooling, allowing the organisation to deploy data centres in simple concrete buildings. This avoids the carbon impact associated with constructing new data centre facilities and supports OVHcloud’s vision of maintaining a high innovation velocity coupled with a low carbon footprint.

“Our UK business continues to evolve in parallel with the needs of our customers and we’re delighted to bring a sustainable, flexible, open and trusted cloud to our partners and users, all at a compelling performance-price ratio,” added Dennard. “We’re proud to have served the market for 15 years, helping organisations across the world in their Digital Transformation journeys and are looking forward to the next 15 – and beyond.”
