maincubes – a European data centre owner and operator offering colocation solutions for cloud service providers, the public sector, global enterprises and hyperscalers – has signed a 10-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for pure solar power from Stadtwerke Göttingen AG for 34MW peak.

This agreement will provide FRA03 with pure solar power and is a testament of maincubes’ sustainability and future pursuits of renewable energy.

As an important role in maincubes’ sustainability strategy, the company chose Stadtwerke Göttingen because of its commitment to reliability and flexibility which aligns with customers’ sustainability needs.

“This first PPA contract is a milestone that we are proud of,” said Albrecht Kraas, CTO at maincubes. “We are setting the framework for future sustainability standards and further optimising an environmentally friendly energy supply for our data centres.”

maincubes sustainability strategy involves its EMAS registration (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme), enabling maincubes to demonstrate its environmental commitment with transparency. Also, its agile digital infrastructure is aligned with customers’ ESG requirements.

“The conclusion of the PPA agreement with maincubes gives Stadtwerke Göttingen AG the economic security for further major investments in renewable energies to achieve climate targets in the Göttingen region,” added Jochen Ritter, Head of Energy Services and Heating at Stadtwerke Göttingen AG.

Sustainability is the central component of maincubes. This is demonstrated by its use of hydropower in the Netherlands, construction of wind turbines in India and active involvement in the Open Compute Foundation (OCP), a network of data centre operators, telecommunications and server providers that promotes innovation and more sustainable products.
