Nuevo León lands US$600M data centre investment as Mexico infrastructure race accelerates

Nuevo León has landed US$600 million in new infrastructure investment centred on data centres, accelerating the Mexican state’s push to become a major computing and technology hub.

Governor Samuel García announced the commitment following a working visit to New York, saying the capital would fund projects in Apodaca and Pesquería. The investor was not disclosed, but García said the money would primarily target data centre infrastructure.

The commitment adds another sizeable project to Mexico’s rapidly expanding digital infrastructure market as artificial intelligence, Cloud computing and enterprise workloads drive demand for computing capacity, power and connectivity.

For Nuevo León, the investment also deepens a technology build-out increasingly tied to its established advanced manufacturing base. Apodaca is one of the state’s largest industrial centres, while Pesquería has emerged as another focus for major industrial development.

García said Nuevo León’s infrastructure, energy and water availability were helping attract international capital. He also pointed to industrial parks in Apodaca and the tax-free Colombia Customs Office as competitive advantages.

The new projects could further strengthen the state’s position at the intersection of data infrastructure, manufacturing and nearshoring, where access to reliable power and industrial-scale sites has become increasingly important to technology investors.

According to García, total foreign investment announced for Nuevo León during 2026 has reached US$136.6 billion. He said he expected that figure to hit US$140 billion by December, putting data centres among the infrastructure assets supporting the state’s next phase of expansion and reinforcing northern Mexico’s growing importance in the regional digital economy.
