Ciena to acquire Nubis Communications to expand its inside the data centre strategy and further address growing AI workloads

Ciena has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Nubis Communications – a privately-held company headquartered in New Providence, New Jersey.

Nubis specializes in high-performance, ultra-compact, low-power optical and electrical interconnects tailored to support AI workloads. Its solutions will complement Ciena’s existing portfolio and AIsignificantly increase scale up and scale out capacity inside the data centre.

The Nubis portfolio includes Co-Packaged Optics (CPO) and Near Packaged Optics (NPO), delivering up to 6.4 Tb/s full-duplex bandwidth with low latency and low power. Combined with Ciena’s high-speed SerDes, these modules enable differentiated CPO solutions. Nubis also provides advanced analog electronics for Active Copper Cables (ACC), supporting 200 Gb/s per lane over distances of up to 4 meters.

Ciena will acquire Nubis in an all-cash transaction for US$270 million. The deal is expected to close during Ciena’s fiscal fourth quarter 2025, subject to customary conditions.
