NEXTDC has announced the groundbreaking of TK1 Tokyo, a next-generation, AI-ready data centre to be developed in central Tokyo with targeted completion in late 2030.
Located in Minato ward beside the iconic Tokyo Tower, TK1 Tokyo marks NEXTDC’s first facility in Japan and extends its interconnected digital ecosystem into one of the world’s most significant cloud, AI and mission-critical computing markets.
As Japan accelerates adoption of AI, automation and advanced digital services, TK1 Tokyo will deliver secure, low-latency access to global cloud platforms and high-performance workloads.
Designed to Tier IV standards, the facility offers fault-tolerant infrastructure, advanced security and rich network connectivity to support hyperscalers, cloud providers, defence organisations and enterprise customers seeking resilient, high-density environments in Tokyo’s core business district.
NEXTDC CEO and Managing Director Craig Scroggie said the development represents a major milestone in the company’s international expansion. TK1 Tokyo strengthens NEXTDC’s ability to support customer growth, resilience and sustainability ambitions across the region through partnerships with CBRE Investment Management and leading global technology providers.
Part of NEXTDC’s broader multi-market APAC expansion – including KL1 Kuala Lumpur – the Tokyo campus reinforces the company’s position for growth driven by AI, cloud migration and rising sovereign digital-infrastructure requirements. With construction underway, operational readiness for TK1 Tokyo is expected in late 2030, providing a new AI-ready landing zone for organisations modernising and scaling their digital operations.
