Alibaba Cloud is set to launch its third data centre in Indonesia early next year, in response to the growing demand from its customers in the country.

The expansion comes after Alibaba Cloud Indonesia built its first data centre in 2018. This was followed by the construction of a second data centre in 2019.

The cloud computing giant revealed its plan to build its first ‘data scrubbing’ centre in the country, helping Indonesian customers to fend off cyberattacks.

“On this very occasion, I would like to extend my congratulations to Alibaba Cloud for the on-going development of the Availability Zone and the data scrubbing centre in Indonesia, which is hoped to be launched by 2021,” said the Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Johnny G. Plate.

“We hope that the data management process in the centre will be in line with the Indonesian Government principles in data management, such as lawfulness, fairness and transparency.”

The new data centre will also provide a comprehensive suite of cloud product and services from database, security, network to Machine Learning and data analytics.

Since 2016 Alibaba Cloud Indonesia has introduced proven technologies from the Alibaba ecosystem to serve a wide array of Indonesian customers, including those in e-commerce, finance, logistics, gaming, education and media.
